There is nothing worse than being in the middle of a game and your controller battery running out. In an FPS or racing game for example, this can mean that your score drops dramatically and makes the past 15 minutes of play absolutely pointless. In this article, we will look into the different ways you can preserve your controller’s battery life in order to prevent this dreaded moment by showing you how to turn off ps4 controller.
Turning off the controller manually
Despite your controller not being used whilst watching movies, videos or listening to music on your console, your controller will still be actively working in the background and consuming battery life. One of the easiest ways is to turn off your controller manually using the following steps:
- Hold down the PS button in the center of your controller.
- Navigate to adjust devices within the menu that appears and press X to select.
- Scroll through the list to the bottom and press X to select the option to turn off the device.
- Select your DualShock 4 controller and simply press X to turn it off
Set a timer to automatically turn off the controller
It is possible to set a timer so that your controller will automatically turn off after a specified amount of time being inactive. This option is only available when your controller is being used in wireless mode with your console and will not work if you have it connected via USB. To set the timer for inactivity, you can follow these steps:
- Navigate to settings on your PS4 console.
- Find the “Power Save” setting within the menu and press X to select.
- Press X to select the “set time until controller turns off” option and simply input your desired time.
Turning off the controller from your PC
If you are both a PC and console gamer, you may use your controller for both. In order to turn off the controller on the PC, you simply need to navigate through the user interface and fine the option for turning on and off the controller simply selecting this option will allow you to disconnect the controller and turn it off in order to preserve battery life.
Although this article serves as mainly a guide for turning
off your PS4 controller, there are some small things you can do in order to
maximise the battery life on your controller so you do not have to charge it as
much or risk it dying in the middle of a game. One option is to turn off
vibration, as the motors inside the controller will often spin to give feedback
as you are playing, therefore consuming battery power. Although this will save
battery life, it may however have an impact on your gameplay, if you are
playing an FPS sometimes this added “feel” of the game can be to your
advantage and help make you a better player. We also recommend only using
official PS4 docks and chargers as these were created specifically for this
console, whereas other third party products may be made with less quality and
could damage your controller’s battery over long term use.
