From gamesradar.com:
We've found some pictures on a Japanese Web site which show off both an exposed view of the controller's insides as well as the rumble effect of the motors.

As expected it's a similar twin-motor set-up to the previous Dual Shock 2, Sony having turned down Immersion's newer, more streamlined technology.

» North American PS3 Sales Confirm Growth
Article posted by XanTium | 23-11-2007 23:00 | Permalink | Digg News

From digitaltrends.com:
Although Sony's price cut on the PlayStation 3 had the intended effect in Japan, spurring on sales of the system, the outcome in North America was a question mark until Sony recently released its latest figures. The verdict: sales have "more than doubled."

According to Macworld, Sony announced its latest numbers on Thursday, claiming a 192 percent boost in sales of the 40GB and 80GB system at the continent's top-10 retailers. While this represents an enormous leap in sales for the company, it will have to do better to catch up with the Wii: In October, Nintendo shipped 519,000 Wii systems to Sony's 121,000 PS3s.

Sony will launch a major PS3 marketing assault over the coming weeks as the system enters its first Christmas in Europe trailing Nintendo's Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360 in terms of market share.

Sony hopes to capture the imagination of UK consumers entering the crucial holiday season with a flagship TV ad dubbed "The Entertainers". The theatrical ad, which features a magician, his assistants and an acrobat, will aim to promote the multiple capabilities of the PS3, which can play Blu-ray movies, features an internet browser, and can store photos and music, reports Guardian Unlimited.

» PS3 Unreal will make US holiday
Article posted by XanTium | 21-11-2007 23:26 | Permalink | Digg News

From gamesindustry.biz:
The PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 has been approved by SCEA and has been released to North American manufacturing, according to Epic's Mark Rein.

"Midway has started talking to retailers to figure out exact timing and they will have a formal announcement early next week when everyone is back from the Thanksgiving holiday," he said in a statement.
"My guess is that Midway will start shipping the title to North American retailers on Monday December 10, and it could show up in stores as early as December 11, but more likely toward the middle of that week."
Note for Europeans: PS3 games are region free and the USD is very low compared to the EUR/GBP, so if you can't wait till next year [February probably] you can always import it :-)

» Stringer: PS3 Can Be as Successful as PS2
Article posted by XanTium | 21-11-2007 23:21 | Permalink | Digg News

From next-gen.biz:
Sony CEO Howard Stringer believes the company's next-gen console can be as successful as its predecessor, and says the momentum of the PS3 matches that of the PS2 early in its lifetime.

"The momentum shift and the energy behind PS3 in time for Christmas is extremely fortuitous," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
"It was planned by the PlayStation group, but I think this momentum now - particularly the number of games coming out, including our own as well as third-party - is the same as it was with PlayStation 2. [The PS3 is] not behind the curve compared to PlayStation 2 in terms of momentum."

» White Engine development stalled, Final Fantasy XIII too?
Article posted by XanTium | 19-11-2007 20:47 | Permalink | Digg News

From siliconera.com:
At Square-Enix's fiscal meeting they candidly mentioned the White Engine development is moving at a sluggish pace. However, they are not abandoning creating their in house engine. Since the engine is the backbone for Final Fantasy XIII it seems likely that the Playstation 3 game will be further delayed. Square-Enix did not mention a date for Final Fantasy XIII or Dragon Quest IX, which was originally slated to come out this year.

» Sega: PS3 will catch up to, if not surpass, 360
Article posted by XanTium | 19-11-2007 20:43 | Permalink | Digg News

From gamesindustry.biz:
Sega's director of artists and repertoire agrees with analysts who think that the PS3 is going to catch up to, if not surpass, the Xbox 360.

It isn't just the recent PS3 price cuts which will certainly help bridge the gap, but the availability of big titles, Noah Musler told GamesIndustry.biz.

"Microsoft has done a good job of closing the gap between the platforms. I don't think they are in the situation they were in with the PS2 and Xbox 1, but it is still too soon to say," Musler remarked.
