From ps3fanboy.com:
[QUOTE]
SCEE has confirmed that the PSN Store redesign will be going live on April 15th. It has also been revealed that the European Store won't get updated until Thursday the 17th, but it should be worth the wait. A list of upcoming content was included in the press release, including the European Metal Gear Online beta.

Konami has confirmed that the beta will be completely open and will last between April 21st and May 6th. After May 6th the beta client will be removed from the PSN Store.

» BenHeck's Playstation 3 Portable
Article posted by XanTium | 10-4-2008 23:46 | Permalink | Digg News

From benheck.com:
[QUOTE]
After about 14 months of on-again-off-again work I have finally finished a Playstation 3 Portable:

PS3Scene.com

Some quick specs:
* Original 60 gig PS3 model with backwards compatibility.
* 17″ HDTV 720p screen, with HDMI connection. (Same as last Xbox 360 laptop)
* Built-in keyboard and stereo audio amplifier.
* Measures 17″ x 13.75″ x 3″ (actually thinner than a stock PS3) and weighs 16 pounds!

You can view more photos on the main story page at Engadget.com. In the coming weeks the "Making Of" articles will follow.

This unit was built by their request and is intended to be auctioned off for charity - more details to come. Since I am already busy with other things, I will not be making any more of these. Feel free to email and ask for other custom design work or inquiries, however!

» Firmware v2.30 Details and Store Walkthrough
Article posted by XanTium | 10-4-2008 23:37 | Permalink | Digg News

From blog.us.playstation.com:
[QUOTE]
Hey Everyone! We know you're all patiently waiting for the next PS3 firmware update, ver. 2.30, which includes the revamped PLAYSTATION Store. The good news is that it's coming soon, and you can now see how the new user interface will look in this video demo featuring Grace Chen.

I have more good news to report today - the system software update will also add DTS-HD Master Audio output for Blu-ray videos, which means the high-definition visuals of Blu-ray will now be matched with the highest quality audio for the ultimate movie-watching experience on PS3.

DTS-HD Master Audio is literally bit-for-bit identical to the studio master recording and makes movie soundtracks and sound effects truly come to life. The technology delivers audio at the incredibly high rate of 24.5 mega-bits per second (Mbps) on Blu-ray disc, which is significantly higher than standard DVDs. DTS-HD Master Audio also offers 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24 bit depths, so you'll be totally immersed in the sound. The firmware update will add DTS-HD High Resolution Audio as well, which is a similar output technology that requires less disc space.

A lot of you, particularly the home theatre enthusiasts and audiophiles out there, have been asking us for this capability, and we can't wait until you have an opportunity to pop in a compatible Blu-ray video to test it out for yourself.

» Limited edition gunmetal gray MGS4 PS3 coming to America
Article posted by XanTium | 10-4-2008 23:36 | Permalink | Digg News

From engadget.com:
[QUOTE]
It's no secret that we've been drooling over all the hot limited-edition Metal Gear Solid 4 swag that Sony and Konami are dishing out in Japan, but it looks like a select few in this country will be able to score the baddest of them all: the gunmetal gray PS3 / MGS4 bundle with matching DualShock 3. Yep, it's coming Stateside on June 12th like the rest of the MGS4 editions and the standard 80GB PS3 / MGS4 bundle, but you'd better get in line now, because we're told it's going to be extremely limited in availability.

» Install Home Beta via Folding-at-Home exploit
Article posted by XanTium | 7-4-2008 23:50 | Permalink | Digg News

From thesixthaxis.com:
[QUOTE]
According to this guy (warning: site is advert/banner hell and kills Firefox) enterprising folk have managed to use the Folding@Home exploit to grab v1.00 of Home. Naturally, the whole would explode if people could actually play it, but despite a 200MB download the thing is still locked just now.

» Sony bullish on Blu-ray dominance
Article posted by XanTium | 7-4-2008 23:19 | Permalink | Digg News

From reghardware.co.uk:
[QUOTE]
Sony wants to own 50 per cent of the Blu-ray Disc hardware market by the end of the year, according to a company executive.

Ryoji Chubachi, President and electronics CEO at Sony, made the bold statement during a recent press conference in Taipei, according to a DigiTimes report.

Chubachi claimed that Sony already has 20 per cent of the market. But he aims to boost Sony's share by 30 per cent through the introduction of more Blu-ray enabled products, such as HD TVs with integrated BD recorders.
